Tab Challenge FAQ

What is my next step?

After registering for the Tab challenge, the Overwolf team will reach out with instructions via email. In the meantime, you should do some thinking and prepare your new app concept. Once you’re ready, follow the instructions emailed to you and submit your concept for official review.

How long will the challenge last? When will you announce the winners?

App concept submission begins on December 24th, and the final, release-ready apps are to be submitted on or before January 26th, 2020, 23:59 PST. We will be announcing Challenge winners on February 20th, 2020.

Where can I get more technical information?

Our developers’ site includes all the technical documentation you’ll need in order to start building apps on Overwolf. Additional useful resources are our SDK and events API docs.

What can I Build?

Pretty much anything you can think of, as long as you comply with the game’s Terms and Conditions and make sure not to break the game’s balance. The app needs to be for one of the following games:

  • League of Legends
  • Dota2
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  • Rainbow Six: Siege

A good app will give value to the player and will use the “Tab” feature of the game.

Who is powering the challenge?

This challenge is powered by Overwolf, and in no way associated with Riot Games, Valve, or Ubisoft

Can I monetize my app?

Yes! Like any Overwolf app, your app can be monetized as long as it does not break the game’s Terms & Conditions. Monetization usually includes ads in the free to use version and subscriptions in an ad-free build.

Apps judging criteria

Three apps will be selected as winners of the competition. Each winner shall be determined by Overwolf’s panel of judges based on the following judging criteria:

  • Player value (what’s in it for the player? why should I use it?): 50%
  • Technical quality (responsiveness, light, ease of use): 30%
  • Design and visual effects (friendly user experience, appealing): 20%

What is the Overwolf Workshop?

Beyond cash prizes and a fast track to releasing an Overwolf app, winners are also invited to a four-day workshop at Overwolf HQ in Tel Aviv. This workshop is designed to provide developers with as much support and resources possible:

  • Product review & advisory
  • Advanced code tutorials
  • Designer Sessions and UI Work
  • Marketing Planning & Strategy
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting

Our goal is to cover every aspect of development and find out how to buff up your great app concept into a killer app.
